5 Ocak 2011 Çarşamba

Where are you located? Top
We have four locations in Southern California, all located in the beach communities of South Orange County such as Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and San Juan Capistrano. Besides the main office location, all living environments are walking distance to the beach and/or marina.

What is the admission process? Top
During your first telephone call to Able To Change Recovery we will be able to determine your appropriateness for admission and whether a detox is needed or not. In the same day, we will call you back after we have verified your insurance benefits to make financial arrangements in order to reserve your stay with us. We'll then make detox (if needed) and flight arrangements to fly you into Orange County where we'll have a driver waiting to drive you to the hospital or our facility.

What are the criteria for admission? Top
Male and female adults 18+, chemically dependent, addicted to alcohol and/or other drugs, engaged in self-defeating behaviors, and unable to abstain from drugs and alcohol outside of a structured setting. You must be physically able to participate in our highly-active daily schedule and be motivated and willing to participate in your recovery.

What if I need a detox? Top
We do not provide detox services here. Not to worry, you have two options: a) you can go through a detox in your area or; b) during the initial admission scheduling we'll make all the necessary arrangements with one of three local inpatient (hospitalized) detox programs. All you'll have to do is get on the plane or drive to our center and we'll take care of everything else.

What forms of payment do you accept and when is it due? Top
We accept cash, check, VISA, Master Card, and electronic bank transfer. Payment is due in full upon admission. In the event that we have to fly you in from out of state and/or make arrangements for a detox, a 50% deposit will be required to reserve your stay with us.

Do you accept health insurance? Top
Yes, we are an in-network substance abuse treatment provider for Blue Cross, CIGNA, and Aetna. Insurance benefits plans may vary on level-of-care coverage, annual deductible, co-insurance & co-payment, and allotted length-of-stay. This can be confusing; our insurance benefits and claims personnel will be happy to provide you with this information and out-of-pocket costs prior to admission.

Is financing available? Top
Yes, we work with a financing company that may be able to finance your treatment program for up to 90 days. If you're interested we will fax or email you an application to fill out; once submitted you will get a response within 24 hours.

Is there a refund if I leave sooner than expected? Top

We understand that not all individuals will successfully complete the program and that this is a vulnerable time for you and your family. We're not here to take an advantage of your situation and will gladly provide a prorated refund.

It is the policy of Able to Change Recovery that any cash-pay resident who is discharged from the program, within 14 days of admission (orientation period), whether it is a self-discharge or administrative discharge, will be provided a refund of monies less 50% of the total fees collected at admission. Should a resident be discharged after the 14 day orientation, a prorated refund will be negotiated after a 30-day payment processing period.

It is the policy of Able to Change Recovery that any resident covered by health insurance, that is discharged from the program whether it is a self-discharge or administrative discharge, will be provided a prorated refund of the COINSURANCE amount initially deposited upon admission into the Able to Change Recovery program. Any monies deposited for insurance deductibles, sober-living expenses, airline fares, and/or security deposits to hold a bed willNOT BE REFUNDED. Refund checks will not be processed until reimbursement claims are processed through your insurance company.

Do you provide airfare? Top
We are able to provide airfare for cash-pay customers only. We will make the necessary arrangements and provide you with electronic tickets via fax or email. You will be flown into John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana where our driver will pick you up. Unfortunately, health insurance will not pay for airfare; so, if you are using your insurance benifits to pay for the program it is your responsibility to pay airfare.- NOTE 12/31/08: We apologize, but due to temporary discount rate being offered, we are unable to include the cost of airfare. This service will be reinstated when the rates return to normal pricing.

What if I am intoxicated or under the influence when I arrive at your facility? Top
Under no circumstances can we admit you into our facility because we are not licensed as a detox facility. State regulations prohibit us from doing so; we would be putting our residents at risk. You would either have to go to a detox facility or return to us sober. The same policy applies to testing "positive" for opiates or benzodiazepines.

What if I show signs of withdrawal symptoms when I arrive? Top
The purpose of the initial telephone or face-face screening is to determine a level of care that would be in your best interest and whether or not we can provide that level of care. Being completely honest and providing accurate information will help us plan appropriately. If your withdrawal symptoms are moderate to severe our physicians will require that you enter a detox facility; if they are mild we will monitor your condition and ability to participate in daily activities.

Is this a dual diagnosis program? Top
Yes, many of our clients are diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Upon admission you will undergo a thorough psychiatric evaluation with follow-up appointments to monitor mood stability, medication effectiveness, and medication management. Your treatment plan will include dual diagnosis group education and process.

Is food provided? Top
Yes, you are allowed to choose and cook your own food and have unrestricted access to the kitchen area of your living environment. Upon admission and each week thereafter you are provided with a $100 gift card that can be used for weekly grocery shopping that we'll drive you to.

Is your program coed? Top
Yes, our program serves men and women. All clients participate in groups and activities under close supervision. However, the living environments are gender-specific and we do take our 'no-fraternizing' policy very serious. Other than group and supervised activities, male-female communication is not permitted.

What kind of clothing should I bring? Top
Dress for residential treatment should be comfortable and casual. Appropriate attire would be jeans, casual slacks, jogging suits, tee-shirts, sweatshirts, board shorts, walking shorts, and appropriate-length dresses and skirts. Lightweight jackets and sweaters are recommended for the winter months. During the spring and summer months you may bring beach and swim wear, hats, sun-glasses, flip-flops, beach towels. For your daily workout routine at the health spa you should bring workout clothes and tennis shoes.

Clothing that depicts alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sex, violence, and gang signatures, and inappropriate language, are otherwise deemed inappropriate by staff and is not permitted.

Can I have my cell phone while I'm there? Top
Yes, you may bring your cell phone, iPOD, and laptop computer. We will treat you like an adult and anticipate that you will not abuse your electronics privileges. But keep in mind that should you not follow the rules on electronics we reserve the right to confiscate or restrict the use of the item in question for the remainder of your stay with us.

Will I be on a restriction when I arrive? Top
Yes, in the first two weeks of your stay with us you will be restricted to the facilities; a staff member will accompany you to all activities. The purpose of the "orientation" time is to familiarize you with the program rules, schedule, residents, and staff; and also so we can get to know you. In the first week of orientation you will have a health and physical, psychiatric evaluation; be assessed by an assessment counselor; and be assigned to 1:1 counselor.

Can I have visitors? Top
Visitors are welcomed to visit with you at your living environment on Sunday's between 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Also, families are welcome to visit on holidays and scheduled weekend recreational activities.

What about health and fitness? Top
We believe that daily exercise helps fill the void that occurs in early sobriety when substance abuse is discontinued. Regular exercise helps relieve stress and improves self-esteem, vitality, and alertness. Exercise contributes to the production of endorphins, chemical messengers that trigger the pleasure center of the brain. To promote well-being and fitness, your daily program includes workout sessions at an off-site Health Spa and Gym.

What type of recreational activities do you have? Top
Of course there is the daily visit to the Health Club & Spa. We also make arrangements for softball games, movies, bowling, beach bar-BQ-s, hiking, and picnics.

How many people will I live with? Top
That depends on living environment that you are assigned to. All of our homes are spacious, comfortable, and clean. They all meet occupancy requirements per State and County health, fire, and safety guidelines. The female house is a five-bedroom, five bath two-story home that houses up to 11 women and two staff members. The male homes are single and two-story homes that house between 6 and 8 men and 2-3 staff members.

Do you have a family program? Top
We strongly encourage family and significant other involvement during and after your treatment here. The family program consists of weekly family group sessions that meet in the evening on Friday and monthly two-day weekend sessions that are scheduled usually on the second or third weekend of the month.

What is the average length of stay there? Top
The program is designed to be most effective of a 90-day time period. On an average, clients paying with insurance are with us for about 30 days. Those paying with cash will usually stay for 60 - 90 days.

asbestosis diagnosis

How is asbestosis diagnosed?

Diagnosis of asbestosis is largely dependent on a good and accurate clinical history taking. Occupational exposure to asbestosis is critical to the diagnosis. Histopathological diagnosis is usually not necessary for patient management but can be used to confirm the diagnosis. Screening of at-risk workers can reveal lung inflammation and lesions characteristic of

The person with asbestosis has abnormal lung function, and a doctor listening with a stethoscope placed over the lungs can hear abnormal sounds called crackles. In a person who has a history of exposure to asbestos, a doctor sometimes can diagnose asbestosis with a chest x-ray or a chest computed tomography (CT) that shows characteristic changes. X rays can show shadows or spots on the lungs or an indistinct or shaggy outline of the heart that suggests the presence of asbestosis. Blood tests are used to measure concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Pulmonary function tests can be used to assess a patient's ability to inhale and exhale, and a computed tomography scan (CT) of the lungs can show flat, raised patches associated with advanced asbestosis.

Pleural plaques that develop in many people with exposure to asbestos often contain calcium, which makes them easy to see on chest x-rays and CT. A lung biopsy is rarely needed to make the diagnosis. If a tumor of the pleura is found on x-ray, a doctor must perform a biopsy (remove a small piece of pleura and examine it under a microscope) to determine if it is cancerous.

dual diagnosis anonymous

Dual Recovery Anonymous is a 12 Step self-help program that is based on the principals of the Twelve Steps and the experiences of men and women in recovery with a dual diagnosis. The DRA program helps us recover from both our chemical dependency and our emotional or psychiatric illness by focusing on relapse prevention and actively improving the quality of our lives. In a community of mutual support, we learn to avoid the risks that lead back to alcohol and drug use as well as reducing the symptoms of our emotional or psychiatric illness.

There are only two requirements for membership:

  • A desire to stop using alcohol or other intoxicating drugs.
  • A desire to manage our emotional or psychiatric illness in a healthy and constructive way.

DRA members are encouraged to build a strong personal support network. That network may include support from chemical dependency or mental health treatment facilities, medical or social service professionals, and spiritual or religious assistance in addition to other 12 step or self-help groups. DRA has no opinion on the way the other groups address dual disorders or dual recovery. We do not offer advice regarding specific forms of treatment for the various types of emotional or psychiatric illnesses. However, we do share our personal experiences regarding the ways that we have learned to cope with our symptoms by applying the 12 steps in our daily lives.

Dual Diagnosis Recovery

When treating dual diagnosis recovery is a reality, which can occurs regularly, provided that the dual diagnosis therapy is provided by a legitimate dual diagnosis program. Valid dual diagnosis programs can be found in only a few locations across the country, as there are only a few dual diagnosis programs that have the properly educated, trained, and experienced staff, as well as the proper dual diagnosis program curriculum.

In a legitimate dual diagnosis recovery program, the majority of patients suffer from substance abuse and one or more psychiatric disorders, concurrently. While dual diagnosis programs may have clients who suffer from chemical addiction, only, these programs are staffed and devised with the dual diagnosis patient as its focus.

Dual diagnosis therapy consists of significant initial evaluation and assessment, the development of a treatment program, followed by extensive individual and small group therapy, as well as other adjunctive therapies and education.

A dual diagnosis recovery program should have an experienced psychiatrist, psychologists, PhD/PsyD or Master’s level therapists, counselors, and other treatment professionals who are educated and trained to provide dual diagnosis therapy. Primary dual diagnosis therapy ranges from cognitive-behavioral therapy to psycho-dynamic therapy to solution-focused therapy, among others. Adjunctive dual diagnosis therapy includes experiential therapy, art therapy, equine and pet therapy, narrative therapy, among others. Additionally, a dual diagnosis program may provide physical therapies such as massage, yoga, meditation, bio-feedback, acupuncture, among others.

In summary, a dual diagnosis recovery program provides treatment for those suffering from dual diagnosis issues. Dual diagnosis programs must meet certain, elevated standards of treatment and care to qualify as such. Dual diagnosis therapy is much more complex that regular addiction therapy, due to the concurrent issues.

Co-Occurring Disorders: Integrated Dual Diagnosis and Dual Disorders Treatment Information for Consumers

Dual diagnosis refers to the presence of both a severe mental illness and a substance use disorder. Integrated dual diagnosis treatment has been shown to work effectively for individuals with both disorders. In this treatment model, one clinician or treatment team provides both mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Many dual diagnosis treatment centers in the United States offer integrated dual diagnosis treatment.

RECOVERY FROM MENTAL ILLNESS AND SUBSTANCE USE

As people with mental illnesses, we are also prone to develop problems with alcohol and drug use. This is the definition of dual diagnosis. We tend to use drugs and alcohol for the same reasons that people without a mental illness do, but we are often more sensitive to the negative effects of alcohol and drugs.

The result is that one of every two individuals with severe mental illness has the additional problem of substance abuse, (abuse or dependence related to alcohol or other drugs).

There is good news for dual diagnosis

Most of us with dual diagnosis can achieve recovery, and our lives are much better when we are in recovery. Building a satisfying and meaningful life without drugs or alcohol requires time, support, education, courage, and learning new skills.

HOW CAN PEOPLE WITH DUAL DISORDERS ACHIEVE RECOVERY FROM BOTH MENTAL ILLNESS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE?

  • Most people with dual diagnosis are able to achieve recovery. The chance of recovery improves when people receive integrated dual disorders treatment, which means combined mental health and substance abuse treatment from the same clinician or treatment team.
  • Relapses do happen, but most people are able to recover from relapses relatively quickly and get back to where they were before they relapsed.
  • Families and clinicians cannot force people to give up alcohol and drugs. Family and other supporters can help by providing support and hope, but recovery must be a person's own choice. It may take a long time for some people to achieve recovery.
  • People with dual diagnosis can learn from peers who are in recovery. Some may benefit from self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Dual Recovery Anonymous. It is a matter of personal preference.

WHAT IS INTEGRATED DUAL DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT?

Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment occurs when a person receives combined treatment for mental illness and substance abuse from the same clinician or treatment center.

It helps people develop hope, knowledge, skills, and the support they need to manage their problems and to pursue meaningful life goals.

You will know if you are receiving integrated treatment because your clinician or treatment team will do several things at the same time, including:

  • Help you think about the role that alcohol and other drugs play in your life. This should be done confidentially, without any negative consequences. People feel free to discuss these issues when the discussion is confidential, nonjudgmental, and not tied to legal consequences.
  • Offer you a chance to learn more about alcohol and drugs, to learn about how they interact with mental illnesses and with medications, and to discuss your own use of alcohol and drugs.
  • Help you become involved with supported employment and other services that may help your process of recovery.
  • Help you identify and develop your own recovery goals. If you decide that your use of alcohol or drugs may be a problem, a counselor trained in integrated dual diagnosis treatment can help you identify and develop your own recovery goals. This process includes learning about steps toward recovery from both illnesses.
  • Provide special counseling specifically designed for people with dual disorders. If you decide that your use of alcohol or drugs may be a problem, a trained counselor can provide special counseling specifically designed for people with dual disorders. This can be done individually, with a group of peers, with your family, or with a combination of these.

IF YOU ARE A PERSON WITH DUAL DISORDERS, PARTICIPATING IN INTEGRATED DUAL DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Effective treatment will help reduce the risk for many additional problems, such as increased symptoms of a mental illness, hospitalizations, financial problems, family problems, homelessness, suicide, violence, sexual and physical victimization, incarceration, serious medical illnesses, such as HIV and hepatitis B and C, and sometimes even early death.

What can you, as a consumer with dual diagnosis, do?

  • Get more information and support about what having dual disorders means and how it affects your recovery process.
  • Do everything you can to build a positive life for yourself without alcohol and drugs. For most people recovery includes meaningful activities, like a job, friendships with people who do not use alcohol or drugs, a safe place to live, and enjoying leisure activities that are fun and relaxing. This all takes time. Don't give up.
  • If you are having trouble with your mental illness as well as with substance abuse, it is important to talk with mental health professionals about how to get your symptoms under better control, and how to improve your recovery process.

The first step in recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism is willingness to attend treatment, and to find an addiction treatment center, alcohol rehabprogram or drug rehabilitation center that is best suited to the individual's specific needs. Most drug addiction treatment centers deal with mental health and co-occurring disorders (dual diagnosis treatment) in addition to their drug rehabilitation and alcohol rehabilitation services. This is known as dual diagnosis treatment. There are so many drug rehab centers, alcohol rehab programs and dual diagnosis treatment centers to choose from that the task can be daunting. Our website focuses on the characteristics of drug addiction, alcoholism, and addiction treatment, and offers comprehensive information on drug treatment centers, alcohol rehabilitation programs, and drug rehab centers that offer dual diagnosis treatment.

Drug Rehab Centers, Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs and Drug Treatment Centers

'Drug rehab center', 'drug treatment center', 'alcohol rehabilitation center', 'drug treatment program', and 'substance abuse treatment center' are all terms used to describe basically the same thing - a safe and supportive environment for recovery from drug addiction and/or alcoholism. They usually take the form of a residential addiction treatment center, but can also be intensive outpatient rehabilitation or day treatment programs, or day/night treatment programs - a type of treatment center that takes on the same form and provides many of the same services as a residential drug treatment center or alcohol rehab center, but utilizes more that one location for treatment - often a center for counseling and group therapy by day, and a separate residential setting at night. Alcohol and drug treatment centers, whether they are residential treatment centers or day/night treatment programs, all provide a nurturing, safe, and supportive setting to recover from drug addiction and alcoholism. Outpatient drug rehab programs and intensive outpatient drug rehab programs are more aptly suited to individuals who have already completed a higher level of care like primary residential drug treatment, or individuals whose addiction to drugs - whatever the drug - alcohol, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines (meth, crystal meth, speed), other opiates (Vicodin, Oxycontin, morphine, methadone), barbiturates, or benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonipin to name a few) is less severe. Outpatient treatment programs are also appropriate for cases where the drugs are already out of the individual's system through a process of detoxification, whether it's rapid opiate detox for heroin addiction, substitution therapy and detoxification for opiate addiction (using more cutting edge treatments such as Subutex, Suboxone, Buprenex or Buprenorphine), or more traditional detox from drugs and alcohol using benzodiazepines or barbiturates to treat the withdrawal symptoms. Individuals who hope to find success in an outpatient treatment program must already have some level of distance from drug addiction, alcohol abuse or alcoholism, and must be stable and have the ability to function in an uncontrolled environment when not at the drug treatment center for rehabilitation services.

The History of Drug Treatment Centers, Drug Rehabilitation Programs and the Disease Concept

Alcohol and drug treatment centers have existed since the late 1800's and early 1900's, however at that time they were not called drug rehab centers or alcohol treatment programs, they were called "asylums" and the disease of addiction and alcoholism (as defined by the American Medical Association) was not seen as being a disease or an illness at all. It was wrongly categorized as a disorder no different from schizophrenia or other psychoses, which is why many alcohol rehab and drug addiction treatment centers have their roots in mental health hospitals and mental health treatment facilities. To this day, drug rehabilitation and alcohol rehab programs in hospitals are often directly related with the mental health treatment and behavioral healthcare treatment programs offered, or are combined into dual diagnosis treatment centers. The disease concept of alcoholism and drug addiction has only existed since the 1950's, and even then took some time to become widely accepted, it's growth coinciding directly with the growth of twelve-step recovery programs, the first and most well known of which being AA or Alcoholics Anonymous. Today the field of addiction treatment - alcohol and drug rehabilitation and drug rehab centers - has grown into a nation full of treatment centers, the majority based on 12-step methodologies, and calling themselves alcohol rehabs, drug rehabs, recovery centers, retreat centers for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, drug treatment programs and a slew of other terms that all describe the same thing - safe, supportive environments for recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

treatment centersBefore choosing a drug treatment center, drug rehab center or alcohol rehab center, you should educate yourself about the different types of addiction treatment centers and rehabilitation programs available. Please explore our site to find comprehensive information on drug addiction, alcoholism, sex addiction, eating disorders, and dual diagnosis. We recommend speaking with a counselor to determine which addiction treatment center is best for you or your loved one. The first step on the road to recovery is admitting there is a problem and reaching out for help.
